How to brief a production house (with a free template)
Brands are producing more content than ever across advertising, social media and e-commerce. The teams that keep up are not the ones with the biggest budgets — they are the ones with a repeatable process.
Start with the outcome
Before choosing a format, write down what the content has to do: launch a product, lower cost per acquisition, or build trust in a new city. That single sentence decides almost everything else.
Pick partners on fit, not follower count
A creator with a smaller, engaged audience in your category will usually outperform a large generic account. Look at comments, not just likes.
The brief is the most under-rated creative document in marketing.
Sort usage rights early
- Where will the content run?
- For how long?
- Can it be edited or used in paid ads?
Answering these up front avoids renegotiation later, and keeps everyone’s expectations clear.
